CPC Networking Discussions are informal, facilitated conversations between members of Career Professionals of Canada. They’re a great way to connect and learn along with your colleagues! Each session is focused on a specific topic and, as an attendee, you will have the opportunity to engage directly with other participants and ask any questions you may have.

CPC's Certification Team upholds the highest standards in the career development profession. This meeting is exclusively for CPC's authorised Certification Assessors.

Our certification program recognises and validates the expertise of practitioners across a range of essential competencies, including career strategy, work-life strategy, interview strategy, employment strategy, and résumé strategy.

Through rigorous assessment and evaluation, CPC ensures that certified professionals meet the benchmark for excellence in their field, providing employers, clients, and colleagues with confidence in their skills and knowledge.

The CPC Certification Team is accountable for overseeing the CPC Certification Program. Certification Assessors evaluate the work product submitted by practitioners. They review, assess, and mark submissions and make their recommendations for conferring the Certified Career Strategist (CCS), Certified Work-Life Strategist (CWS), Certified Interview Strategist (CIS), Certified Employment Strategist (CES), and Certified Résumé Strategist (CRS) designations to successful practitioners.

Safeguarding Your Clients: How Career Professionals Can Identify and Prevent Job Scams.

Join us live on Thursday, April 30th, at 1:00 PM ET, for a 90-minute, practitioner-focused webinar designed to help career professionals recognize and respond to the growing threat of employment-related scams.

As fraudulent job postings, fake recruiters, phishing attempts, and AI-generated scams become more sophisticated, job seekers are increasingly vulnerable. Career development practitioners are often the first line of defence. This session will provide practical insight into how scams are evolving and how you can help protect your clients.

We begin with an overview of the current job scam landscape in Canada, including emerging fraud tactics powered by artificial intelligence. From convincing fake job postings to AI-generated recruiter profiles and deepfake interviews, you will learn how technology is being used to make scams harder to detect.

Next, we explore the most common red flags in job postings, recruiter outreach, and employment offers. You will gain practical tools to help clients verify opportunities, assess legitimacy, and protect their personal and financial information.

We will also discuss how to incorporate scam awareness into your advising practice without creating fear, and how to support clients who may have already been targeted.

By the end of this session, you will be better equipped to identify warning signs, educate clients on safe job search practices, and strengthen your role as a trusted, informed advisor.

This is a live-only event. All registered participants will receive access to the recording after the webinar; however, it will not be available for purchase after the event. We encourage early registration to ensure access.

Who should attend: career development practitioners, employment and interview consultants, résumé writers, career coaches, HR professionals, settlement workers, newcomer service providers, and community service providers who support job seekers across Canada.

Julie Matthews is a nationally recognized fraud prevention expert and proud self-proclaimed “fraud nerd.” She travels across Canada educating seniors, businesses, and communities about how to identify and prevent the latest scams. She is passionate about delivering accessible, practical scam awareness education both in-person and virtually—even in the smallest communities.

Julie spent 19 years as an investigative television reporter, including 10 years as the Troubleshooter at Global TV Edmonton. She later transitioned into public service, becoming a peace officer and senior investigator with the Government of Alberta Consumer Investigations Unit, where she worked for a decade protecting consumers from fraud and unfair business practices.

Today, Julie serves as the national spokesperson for the Canadian Anti-Scam Coalition’s Stand Against Scams campaign. She is a Certified Fraud Examiner and hosts weekly radio segments across Alberta focused on emerging scam trends and prevention strategies.

Her work has earned numerous honours, including the Alberta Consumer Champion Award and the Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security Crime Prevention Award.

CPC’s board of directors are responsible for the association's governance, strategic direction, and accountability.

Governance is the framework, processes, rules, and systems that controls how the board is structured, how it operates, and how decisions are made. Planning and determining strategic direction is carried out by the board on an ongoing basis and includes both short and long-term goals. The board has a legal responsibility to provide oversight and accountability for CPC. They must ensure that all legal and ethical standards are followed and the organization is appropriately managing their assets and resources.
