Every interpersonal interaction is shaped by cultural norms and expectations. Seldom is this more clearly brought to light than when we work with clients from a cultural background different from ours. Dissimilar communication practices may lead to frustration, misunderstanding, and even conflict.

“Intercultural Communication Highwire” will explore diverse communication styles and behaviors and highlight blind spots and learn different ways to prevent faux-pas and mistakes.

Esther Schvan, BA, CPF, CRS, is a fully bilingual certified professional facilitator, trainer and coach with over 15 years of experience in Intercultural Communication, Diversity and Career Transition. Esther is a sought after keynote speaker and presenter at major Diversity and Communications events. For fifteen years, she has also trained and coached New Canadians. Esther holds a BA from McGill University in Montreal and is currently preparing her thesis for an MA in Intercultural Relations.

A highly effective communicator, Esther developed a reputation for high energy, positive attitude and contagious enthusiasm. Passionate about inclusiveness, Esther speaks 7 languages and lived on 3 continents.

Consider these questions for the call:

  • Were you ever involved in or witness to a puzzling intercultural communication mishap in a professional situation?
  • How could you notice that a client has a different verbal or nonverbal communication style?
  • How do you prepare for a client from a different culture (if you do)?
  • How can you give interculturally sensitive feedback?
  • How can you ensure a successful intercultural interaction?

This is a conference call. Long distance charges may apply.
